Vieux Château Saint André is a luscious, Right Bank claret, especially in such a ripe, forward, critically acclaimed vintage as 2020. It's from Montagne, one of four satellite regions of Saint Emilion, the best wines of which can be exceptional and offer impressive value. In his book ‘Bordeaux’, Robert Parker pointed out this is where you consistently find “some of the deepest, richest wines”. Winemaker at Pétrus for 44 years, Jean-Claude retired in 2007 and starting consulting as well as winemaking at his own property. His son Jeff joined him and today does most of the hard graft. Mostly Merlot with Cabernets, all barrel matured, the wine has a delicious harmony. Freshness, firm tannins and a core of dark fruit, it will age well.
