A superb, rich, Gold medal red from Roussillon, showcasing the old vine treasures that survive in the region’s arid soils. It's the pride and joy of Jean-Charles Duran, who tends his old vineyards with a passion. Dense with velvety blackberry spice.

Un Vent de Folie was the discovery of winemaker/ buyer Mark Hoddy. He has an unswerving passion for the wines of the Roussillon – a fascination for the power and intensity of flavours from the tiny knots of fruit on the vines that dare call themselves grapes. He got to know Jean Charles, who has some amazing vineyards in Maury in rugged Roussillon. Maury is the finest area for grapes – its slate terroir and gnarled old vines, buffeted by the Tramontane wind that drives people to madness (folie) and scorched by sun, produce yields of around 8 hectolitres per hectare. Tiny. Grenache with a touch of Syrah and Carignan, the wine was aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels. It’s very big and warming – enjoy with hearty meat dishes.
