Tucked away in the north eastern corner of France, Alsace is a wine region that often gets overlooked, yet it produces some of France’s finest white wines. One of our favourite estates is Domaine Gérard Metz in the charming village of Itterswiller, on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains. Winemaker Eric Casimir uses traditional techniques and sustainable agriculture in order to create great wines with a true Alsace character. A beautifully balanced, dry white that has classic Gewurztraminer spice and florality but is very light on its feet and never overpowering. Tangy and fresh with flavours of apples, citrus and lychees. Versatile with food, it is delicious with chilli spiced noodles, Thai curry or roast duck. Very nice solo, too.
