More information
Ribera del Duero was only recognised as an appellation in 1982, but has since stolen the show and its red wines are thought of as the best in Spain. They are made from Tempranillo, here called Tinto Fino or Tinto del Pais. Torresilo is a great red from Cillar de Silos, a family owned producer that’s up there with the very best, Vega Sicilia included. Silos makes this from the fruit of some of the oldest vines in the region, many well over a century old. They’re grown at high altitude, too, where day and night temperature variations help add elegance and freshness, needed for long ageing. Matured for 16 months in new French oak, this wine has layers of silky dark fruit, mocha and nutmeg, now mellowed and complex. Excellent with light game.
