Groote Kaap Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Western Cape

A few years back, we asked the Trophy winning winemaker at Stellenbosch’s top Spier Estate to make us the biggest, richest red. It was a lush, weighty Cabernet, fine-tuned over the vintages into this dense, dark, velvety wine. A real stunner.

Spier, one of South Africa’s oldest wine farms, dates back to 1692 and its head winemaker, Frans Smit, is a major figure in the wine world. Not only was he excited by the prospect of making this exclusive cuvée for us, he was even more excited by the result! Groote Kaap is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, hand picked in the early morning from the Montagu region of Klein Karoo. The area boasts fantastic wildlife including an eagle sanctuary, sponsored by Spier. And every year the sun shines for an unbelievable 355 days. This translates into wine with big fruity flavours. Groote Kaap is the kind of mouthfilling red that really satisfies, whatever the weather, and is best served with hearty food – roast lamb or beef, gourmet sausages or juicy steaks.
