The Huguenot Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Western Cape

With its exuberant tropical fruit and lean citrus freshness, The Huguenot perfectly captures why South Africa has gained such a great name for Sauvignon. It slots neatly in style between the two touchstones of classic Loire and explosive Kiwi wines.

The Huguenot Sauvignon will charm you with its balance of grassy, mineral notes and bolder tropical expressions. It’s from Franschhoek Cellar, a co-op set up in 1945 and now an impressive private winery. They’ve won many Trophies, including plenty for their Sauvignons, and every year these are included in South Africa’s Top Ten. Winemaker Ryan Puttick has just taken over. He aims to make appealing, fruit-filled wines and is inspired very much by the Sauvignons of New Zealand. Drawing on small parcels of grapes grown on different soils and slopes, he’s crafted a truly distinctive Sauvignon. Delicious on its own and even better with grilled swordfish, mussels or spicy stir-fry – Franschhoek is the culinary capital of South Africa after all.
