Crafted from the hand-picked grapes of ancient bush vines around the remote town of Bullas, this is a weighty, rich red. It’s close in style to the super trendy wines of Bierzo, but much better value. A dense, spicy red and well balanced to boot.

Tucked away in a remote corner of Spain, high up in the hills and hidden by dense forest, Bullas is one of Spain’s oldest winemaking regions. The Romans made wine here over 2,000 years ago, proven by the ancient artefacts discovered there. This rich red is made nearly all from Monastrell, grown on ancient, gnarled bush vines that produce tiny berries with great intensity of flavour. Thanks to the altitude of the vineyards, the grapes ripen slowly, lending elegance, too. Added to that is a splash of ripe, juicy Shiraz to lend some spicy blackberry notes. The highly lauded, well travelled winemaker Norrel Robertson, nicknamed The Flying Scotsman, has captured all that flavour in this gently oaked red – a treat with lamb or hearty casseroles.
