An excellent example of a traditional English golden ale. Gatekeeper has all those classic toffee apple, caramel and orchard fruit flavours, balanced by a great bitterness on the finish. Great balance too, from one of the original craft brewers.
Tasting notes
Toffee apple with a lasting bitterness
Aroma
Toasty malty grains and creamy caramel
St. Peter’s Brewery is one of England’s original craft breweries, founded in 1996 and located alongside the moated St Peter’s Hall, deep in the picturesque Suffolk countryside. There it benefits from water filtered through the chalky soils of the Suffolk Downs deep beneath the brewery. They pride themselves on creating truly distinct ales: each one the result of a unique balance between East Anglian malt, carefully selected hops and the time-honoured skill of their master brewer. The Gatekeeper Golden Ale is one of the staples of their Cask beers. English Pale malts coupled with Challenger and Golding hops provide the bitterness and aroma. The result is a light, golden ale with caramel aromas, toffee apple flavour and a late bitterness.
