With a Gold and 96 points, Saracosa Governo is certain to delight lovers of fine Italian reds. Our Buyer Davy was swept away by its rich black cherry intensity, cocoa, coffee and oak spice complexity. A gorgeous mouthful from the Barbanera estate.

Fans of our usual Saracosa will be bowled over by the intensity of its big brother, Governo. Suave and seductive, it’s a full, rounded blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, aged for four months in small oak barrels. What’s more, a portion of grapes were left to dry for 20 days, which adds terrific concentration to the wine. It’s an ancient 14th century method known as Governo in Tuscany. We think the wine’s nothing short of spectacular – no wonder it has already scooped a Gold Medal and a whopping 96 points from Italian wine critic Luca Maroni. It’s the craftsmanship of Sofia Barbanera, the fourth generation winemaker at this great Tuscan family estate. Decant and serve with a local favourite – rabbit casserole, other game or slow-cooked beef.
