Réserve Exceptionnelle Grenache 2018

Vin de France

Grenache in true Châteauneuf style, but it’s a super cuvée from the Cairanne cru nearby. Pure Grenache, this can’t be labelled as such, but rock star winemaker Denis Crespo declared it too good to blend. Super ripe, silky, luscious depth and spice.

Denis Crespo is Bordeaux born, but as soon as he’d finished his studies, he was off to the Rhône valley. He’s not a typical suited Bordelais. He’s more at home in designer jeans and a stud in each ear, leaping from tank to tank, or in his cycling gear peddling up Mont Ventoux. In the Rhône he has spent 13 years working for some top, high profile estates, where he was given free rein to experiment. He arrived at the Cairanne cellar in 2015, turning it around from struggling to today’s award winning status. From a 5-Star vintage, this pure Grenache cuvée tasted so good, Denis refused to blend it as appellation rules demand. Hence its Vin de France label. Impressed, we reserved the lot. Luscious, silky, rounded and ripe. Grab it while you can.

"Way better than many Châteauneuf, this is pure Grenache from a great vintage and top terroir" Jehan Sacaze
