A very good vintage, a family estate and two great, innovative, young winemakers – these are just some of the credentials for this delightful, bright fruit, lightly oaked Rioja. Enjoy it now, when its fruity flavour is at its exuberant best.

The Manzanos family have 125 years of growing grapes to draw upon. Yet they aren’t hidebound by tradition, but are some of the region’s most innovative and exciting producers. Since 2010 the fifth generation, brothers David and Victor, have been at the helm, thrust into the limelight after the death of their father. Their modern winery is in the heart of the Rioja region, where the rivers Ebro and Ega come together, and here they enjoy superb terroir for growing grapes. 2017 was declared a very good, albeit scarce vintage, so expect lots of intense ripe fruit and juicy length in this thoroughly enjoyable Tempranillo. Berry notes and only gentle oak – this is enjoyable to drink any time on its own, with chicken or with vegetable kebabs.
