The Manzanos family have been growing grapes for the last 200 years and making wine since the completion of a cellar in 1890. The latest generation, David and Victor, took it over from their father after his sudden death early this century and have been making great strides ever since. This is a superb, limited edition red from their main, flagship winery, Bodegas Manzanos. Unlike their usual Riojas, it's a blend of Tempranillo, with a large portion of Garnacha and Mazuelo, all three grapes coming from ancient bush vines grown on steep chalky slopes. This all adds up to grapes with lovely concentrated flavour. Quality was so good, the wine was aged four to six years in oak barrels. Silky, elegant, with luscious spice, it's a fine lamb red.
