The Mingot family have been making great wines on Bordeaux's Right Bank since 1964, when Raymond Mingot first bought this property. Three generations later, with Julien Mingot at the helm, they continue a fine tradition. The vineyards lie just northeast of Libourne and, as you might expect of this part of Bordeaux, Merlot makes up 80% of their 20 hectares. From mature vines, the grapes are all fermented and aged in concrete vats, so there is no oak to this wine. It just sings of its fruit and its terroir. Intense red berries and plum, with firm tannins that, after five years, have softened, this is charming Bordeaux with length and roundness. Still open half an hour early and decant if you can. An attractive addition to the Sunday roast.
