Seven small villages make up the Languedoc's modestly sized Faugères appellation. That includes Caussigniojouls (pron cow-sin-ee-oh-jules), where Château Rigaud lies. It belongs to Antoine Rigaud, but its vineyards and winemaking have been adopted by the dynamic duo of consultant winemaker Claude Gros and Jean-Paul Rosset, owner of world-famous Château de Négly. Attracted by the superb schistous soils and organic outlook of the property, they asked to make the domaine's 2016. They have done Antoine proud, making a cru red, worthy of the finest dining. It has a real taste of southern France too – the ripe fruit, herbal and violet lift and cut of minerality holding it all in place. An elegant, yet warming glassful with grilled meats.

"Ripe, beautifully textured, layered red that's ideal for buying by the case" Jeb Dunnock
Wine Advocate, on 2015
