For an easy going, elegant red with silky fruit and plenty of character, this lightly oaked Tempranillo hits the mark, bang on target. There is just the right balance of ripe berry notes and oaky richness. It's the work of brothers David and Victor Manzanos, who learned to make fine Rioja from their father. When he died, the boys, still in their early 20s, quickly stepped up to the mark and have taken quality even higher. This supple Tempranillo uses well ripened grapes from the family's highest vineyards, while the wine was aged for six months in French oak, and the same in bottle. From a tricky vintage that certainly made the most of the brothers' expertise, this tasty Tempranillo is spot on with simple tapas, paella, or vegetable kebabs.
