From a stand out vintage, producing "rich, intense, powerful fruit-driven wines" (Richard Mayson), this 98-point Quinta do Noval is a stunner. With firm tannins, freshness and layers of fruit complexity, it'll age magnificently. Cellar if you can.

Vintage port is only made in the finest years and it’s up to each individual house if they want to ‘declare’ a vintage. Christian Seely is the exceptional winemaker who has returned the superb port house of Quinta do Noval to its former glory. He has been at the helm for over 20 years, since AXA took ownership, and knows the nuances of each vineyard plot. He also has a most uncanny way of knowing which vintages will develop into greatness. Quinta do Noval 2017 is certainly one of those, with top marks well over 90 from at least six critics. It takes its field blend grapes from vineyards in two valleys – Pinhão and Roncão – the contrasting terroirs of each bring a fine balance and structure to the port. Will greatly reward further cellaring.

"Big grip in this wine with dark blackberries, blueberries and floral notes. Fine tannins. Lovely" James Suckling
