Tucked away in the east, encircled by the Ukraine and Romania, Moldova is a hidden gem that has for centuries being producing wines that impress even the most discerning palates. So good, in fact, that during the 18th and 19th centuries Moldova became the ‘Vineyard to the Tsars’. Its Black Sea influenced climate is ideal for organic viticulture – generally temperate, with biting winds that keep disease at bay. That’s why there’s been serious investment recently in this modern cellar. The grapes for this Cabernet come from vineyards centred round the town of Valea Perjei (meaning ‘plum valley’). With juicy redcurrant and minty blackcurrant notes, this is both refreshing and satisfying. A top shout with steak or sausage and bean casserole.

"Wines emerging from this award winning cellar in Moldova continue to amaze me. Make sure you try one" Beth Willard
