Petit Védrines 2015

Sauternes AOC

Sauternes is the world’s most celebrated dessert wine and Doisy Védrines is one of the best. Despite lying next door to Premiers Crus Châteaux Climens and Coutet, it remains under the radar. This is their magnificent 90-point second wine. Very fine.

Buying the second wine of a great château will reward you well. You get a wine lavished with care and precision winemaking, yet pay a sensible price and the wine is ready for drinking earlier. Petit Védrines is a dream sweet wine from this fine 2ème Cru Classé, Doisy Védrines. The property has been in the Castéja family since 1840. Today Pierre Castéja maintains exceptionally high standards and will declassify a whole vintage if he believes the wines aren't up to scratch. The extensive vineyards lie on Barsac's highest plateau. Yields are very low and take several tries to pick them just at the right moment. Fermented and aged in barrel for 18 months, this wine is beautifully honeyed and complex. Ideal with blue cheese or tarte tatin.

"Lush, dried peaches and apricots. The palate is succulent and creamy with nice balancing acidity" James Suckling
