Peter Weber Schoenenbourg Riesling Grand Cru 2020

Alsace Grand Cru AOC

If you're a Riesling fan, chances are you’ll have heard of Schoenenbourg, a Grand Cru from within France's picture-postcard Alsace. It's been a source of stunning Rieslings since the 16th century. This 2020 has steely minerality and intense fruit.

Welcome to Alsace. It’s a very pretty patch of northeast France, peppered with little villages that wouldn’t look out of place in a book of German fairy tales. And the Germanic influences don’t end there. Rather than Sauvignon and Chardonnay, the vineyards are here planted with Riesling, the three Pinots and Gewurztraminer. Winemakers even use the tall, slender, elegant bottles alss favoured in Germany. Although it’s a cool part of France, Alsace is also the country’s sunniest region. This combination leads to clean, crisp whites of great purity and intensity; particularly in this famous Grand Cru. Handpicked fruit from steep, south-facing slopes produces this dry white, which sings with remarkable fruit intensity. Delicious now, or cellar.
