Patronus Barossa Valley GSM 2016

Barossa

Patronus is a deliciously rich, ripe and bold red from South Australia’s renowned Barossa Valley. Sometimes this wine is pure Shiraz, but Grenache and Mataro also thrive here and the trio makes a mouthfilling, big on spice wine that’s hard to resist!

Patronus is a gorgeously rich, smooth red from the renowned Barossa Valley. Following the success of Patronus Shiraz, our Buyer Dan asked if the cellar could create another red for us. This time they chose a blend of grapes usually found in Châteauneuf du Pape – known as GSM for short, it’s become quite a trend among top Aussie winemakers. It stands for Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, Mataro being the Australian name for Mourvèdre. Winemaking legend Peter Lehmann once said: “When God created Shiraz, he did so with the Barossa in mind.” And when Shiraz is married to Grenache and Mataro you get an even more heavenly result – ripe, black fruit balanced by a powerful, spicy edge and silky texture. Enjoy with rib-eye steak or lamb casserole.
