Monsparone Barolo Riserva 2007

Barolo DOCG

Barolo, from the mist covered slopes of Piedmont, northern Italy, is a classic, very serious style that usually requires decades of patient cellaring. This is a rare exception – a top vintage release that’s ready to uncork and savour right now.

Robert Parker called Barolo from Piedmont’s 2007 vintage “some of the most viscerally thrilling young wines I have ever tasted”. A few years later, early maturing rarities like this are really coming into their own. Monsparone is the work of Bruno Cordero, whose closeness to the best, most dedicated local growers ensures great consistency year after year. And stand-out excellence in a brilliant vintage like 2007. Monsparone Riserva is an opulent yet elegant wine, with a complex bouquet of spice, roses, liquorice and vanilla. Aged for five years before release, the wine has firm yet very smooth tannins to accentuate the full flavoured richness of a classic red. Best decanted and enjoyed with roast red meats, hard cheeses and game dishes.

"Brilliant year, great producer and a Barolo of remarkable depth and smooth drinkability" Davy Zyw
