More information
Called “the birthplace of New Zealand wine” for good reason, Mission Estate was established in 1851. Today it is a wonderfully grand cellar in Hawke’s Bay, with vineyards in many of New Zealand’s finest wine regions. Paul Mooney has been chief winemaker at Mission for over 30 years. He knows every row of vines by heart and the subtle nuances each cooper endows to his/her barrels. This Grand Cru style Chardonnay uses grapes from four Hawke’s Bay vineyards. This is one of New Zealand’s sunniest areas, cooled by ocean breezes. Only the softly pressed juice is put into barrel for fermentation of this wine, while ageing for nine months on lees lends a lovely yeasty richness and creaminess. Reserve for your finest seafood or white meat dishes.
