A rich, complex 2011 from Spain, a double Gold medal winner too. The finished bottles have been tucked away for a few years due to a sale falling through. Technically it’s Gran Reserva, but you wouldn’t guess it from the price. Ripe, mellow and long.

It should have been this wine’s crowning moment – it had just won two Golds and was eagerly anticipated by customers in the United States. Unfortunately, the importer went bust and the finished bottles were tucked away in the cellar. There they were, happily for us, forgotten. Recently unearthed by eagle eyed auditors, the wine was offered to our Buyer, Beth, at an impressively low price and she snapped it up. It’s organic Cabernet and Tempranillo grown in the sunshine vineyards of Spain’s Valencia. Inland, on the sloping hillsides, the grapes ripen well, but retain a pleasing elegance too. Aged in barrel and long in bottle, the wine’s silky berry fruit and toasty vanilla oak flavours are now beautifully married. A great choice with tapas.
