From a small 6-hectare estate, just below the medieval village of Saint-Emilion, this is a supple, silky, appealing Grand Cru. 2016 had a hard act to follow after the blazing 2015, but has been described as "outstanding"(JS). Lovely fruit and length.

For a fine, classic claret with pretty fruit and elegance, Saint-Emilion is a great place to look. This region has many small family estates, making wines that few have heard of. They can represent excellent value for money. This is a delicious example from a small estate just outside the cobbled streets of Saint-Emilion village. Its six hectares of vines are planted on fine gravel and sand soils that are ideal for keeping the vines thirsty. Nearly all are Merlot, with just a few rows of both Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon to add breadth of flavour and richness to the wine. Gently aged in oak barrels, this fine claret is now showing very well. Open beforehand and decant if you can. A classic with roast meats and cheeses like Comte.
