Barolo is one of Italy’s greatest reds and 2016 is an outstanding vintage. Vinous wrote, "what stands out most about the 2016s is their extraordinary balance and harmony". Franco Massolino’s Barolo uses nearly all Serralunga d’Alba grapes, where chalky marl soil produces some of the finest Nebbiolo fruit and longest-lived Barolo. The wine was aged in a mix of large and smaller barrels to add layers of oak spice to the wine’s generous fruit, but mostly to give it time to gain complexity. Wine Advocate praised the "harmony and perfection" of all the Massolino wines, awarding the 2016 Barolo 94 points. A fine food wine, decant well in advance and serve with roast red meats, game casserole or porcini mushroom risotto. It'll cellar for years.

"An arsenal of important Nebbiolo aromas ranging from red cherry and cassis to spice, smoke, licorice" Monica Larner
