Marquis de Calon 2017

Saint-Estephe AOC

Antoni Galloni is full of praise for Calon Ségur's second wine, describing it as, "gorgeous. Silky, understated and wonderfully expressive, pure and total seduction," while Neal Martin called "Margaux like in style." Whichever way, it's a winner.

Château Calon-Ségur is a leading star in Saint-Estèphe, classified as a Third Growth in 1855. Its terroir is revered as one of Bordeaux’s finest. During the 18th century, it was the property of Nicolas Alexandre de Ségur, known as the ‘Prince of Vines’. Marquis de Calon is its much praised second wine. Merlot dominated and from younger vines, it is made to have immediate appeal. Still, with ageing of 17 months in barrel, 30% new oak, it's a serious wine. The vintage has been well reviewed. Antonio Galloni, for one, is full of praise, “Silky, understated and wonderfully expressive. Pure and total seduction.” With bright fruit, lovely floral notes and soft tannins, this drinks very well now and over the next 10 years. A very appealing claret.

"A mélange of black and blue fruit, later crushed violet making it almost Margaux-like in style" Neal Martin
