Maison Roche de Bellene Vieilles Vignes Puligny-Montrachet 2018

Puligny-Montrachet AOP

Nicolas Potel is a hugely talented winemaker, possibly even greater than his highly renowned father before him. From an exceptional vintage, this 2018 Puligny-Montrachet is gloriously intense, poised and steely fresh with a wrap of subtle oak.

Roche de Bellene is the craftsmanship of Nicolas Potel, who learned from his renowned father Gérard, studied in Beaune, then gained experience in Australia and California. His father's early death meant the family estate had to be sold and Nicolas had to build up from nothing. At his new enterprise Nicolas sources top-quality, old-vine grapes, so his wines are wonderfully intense and expressive. Everything is organically sourced, too – from the grapes in the vineyard to the barrels in his cellar. “In the class of the very best that Burgundy can produce,” wrote Jasper Morris MW. This superb Puligny Montrachet is already wonderfully open, yet will gain further depth with age. Serve cellar cool with fine white meat, fish or creamy gougères.
