Maison Joseph Drouhin was established 130 years ago and has gained a worldwide reputation for a style that puts elegance and finesse above richness and weight. In charge today are Joseph’s four grandchildren, Fréderique, Véronique, Philippe and Laurent. Their portfolio extends from Chablis in the north to Givry in the Côte Chalonnaise. Although the output is extensive, quality is nonetheless very high. Organic and biodynamic viticulture is evidence of their meticulous approach to winemaking. This superb 2017 Volnay, "a vintage lovely from north to south," is bright and expressive, with silky tannins, freshness and a deep core of red fruits. Open early and decant or cellar. It's a fine match to light game or stuffed portobello mushrooms.

"Much to enjoy courtesy of Drouhin this year, and not only amongst their Premiers and Grand Crus" Neal Martin
