The Landes region of South West France is close to Bordeaux and best known for brisk whites like those from the Côtes de Gascogne. This is a similarly fresh wine from a brand new cellar, with vineyards warmed by the Mediterranean influence, yet cooled by the Atlantic. It’s almost all lovely ripe Sauvignon Blanc, with a dash of the local hero Gros Manseng. This portion adds apricot and peach fruit notes to the bright stony lemon notes of the Sauvignon. So crisp and fresh, this is a great candidate for summer drinking. But don’t confine it to those months – it’s a tasty palate cleanser and aperitif any time of the year. Chill well and serve on its own or with lighter dishes of spicy prawns, a tomato salad or oysters, as its name suggests.
