Beatrice Vezza is chief viticulturalist at the Araldica cellar in Italy's Piedmont region. She works closely with the independent growers to obtain the highest quality grapes at harvest time, whilst promoting minimal impact on the planet. As she says, it's a work in progress. The wine is pure Cortese, the only grape allowed in Gavi, taken from various plots, all within about 50km from the Ligurian coastline. It's a surprisingly late ripener for a white grape, retaining its lovely citrus freshness until harvest often in late September. Ageing on lees adds roundness and flavour to this elegant, crisp white. Chill and enjoy this delightful Gavi as an aperitif or with broad bean bruschetta, grilled fish, fennel risotto or fresh pasta.
