Bordelais winemakers are a close knit group and to be part of their inner circle you really have to be one yourself. Fortunately, our winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua is Bordelais born and bred and trained at First Growth Château Haut-Brion. It was he who discovered this cuvée of appealing claret from a small family property, just 9.6 hectares, in the very heart of Saint Emilion. Their 45 year old vines are planted on prime soils of silica, blue clay and iron, which ensure excellent intensity in the mainly Merlot fruit, along with a little of both Cabernets and Malbec. A year’s ageing in premium, part new barrels has lent a luscious layer of subtle vanilla oak to the accessible ripe fruit of this claret. Decant and serve with lamb or beef.
