Le Grand Chai Bordeaux Blanc 2019

Bordeaux AOC

A rich, elegant white Bordeaux crafted by Chai winemaker and Sauvignon specialist Jean-Marc Sauboua. He took pristine Sauvignon Blanc and rich honeyed Sémillon and fermented both in oak to lend a creamy, toasty note to the intense, citrusy fruit.

Winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua has won Trophies and Golds galore for his Bordeaux whites and this 2019 shows him on top form. The first sip reveals hallmark verve and zest with added sophistication, body and a lingering toastiness from the Sémillon and the oak. He likes to 'keep it in the family' at Le Chai, and sources some of his grapes from Château de Thieuley, firstly because the fruit quality is so good, and, just by the way, it's owned by his two nieces, great winemakers in their own right. Using the pick of the crop in this lovely ripe vintage, he has oak aged the wine for four months to lend subtle toasty spice to the broad peach and grassy edged fruit. A real modern classic – serve lightly chilled with asparagus or with fine seafood.

"Elegant, citrusy white with peach and a delicate hint of spice. A modern twist on a Bordeaux classic" Jean-Marc Sauboua
