La Dame de Montrose 2012

Saint-Estephe AOC

No stranger to a perfect, 100-point score, Château Montrose is one of the leading estates of Saint-Estèphe. Its second wine has all the hallmarks of the Grand Vin, but at a snip of the price. A well-structured, silky fruit red, with mocha spice.

Château Montrose may be the youngest Cru Classé of Saint-Estèphe, created from land bordering Château Calon-Ségur at the start of the 19th century, but it's one of its top stars. With beautifully situated vineyards and well-equipped, impeccably clean cellars, it is a modest château, with views over the Gironde. This, their second wine, is made from the grapes of the château’s younger vines, the fruit of which is excellent, but may lack a little of the intensity of the older plots. Wine Enthusiast awarded La Dame an impressive 92 points, commenting on its firm tannins and ripe blackberry fruit. Now with 9 years' age, those tannins have softened, revealing mature red fruits with polish, leather and mocha spice. A great choice with game.
