La Casa by Menade 2018

Rueda DO

If you like the bright breezy zip of Sauvignon Blanc, try Spain's Verdejo. It retains that lovely citrusy freshness, combining it with herbal and apple notes. This is delightfully crisp 2018, organic too, from a family estate in Spain’s Rueda.

The pioneering Sanz family have been leading winemakers in Spain for around 200 years. Fifth generation siblings Marco, Ricardo and Alejandra set up Bodegas Menade in 2005 and, every year, make impressive wines. They’re obsessed with the little detail, opting for a very natural approach, down to using plant based treatments such as nettles and vanilla on their vines. La Casa comes from their high altitude vineyards, where the soil is pebbly and well drained on top, but retains water in the clay below. Spain’s Verdejo is often compared to Sauvignon Blanc because it shares a similar refreshing, lemony zip. Menade’s La Casa also has a herbal and green apple lift, and fragrant minerality. We love this paired with grilled fish or veggie kebabs.

"Spain excels with fresh whites. This Verdejo has Sauvignon like refreshment with a bit more weight" Beth Willard
