Chat with Vinny
On the border of Pauillac, home to three First Growths, Ramage La Batisse clocks up a haul of Golds every vintage. This is their ‘second wine’, usually reserved for family and friends, and a first for the UK. Very approachable top vintage claret.
Tasting notes
Velvety black fruit with underlying rounded tannins. Cedar length
Aroma
Rich, ripe cassis and raspberry notes with a cedar edge
Balanced, fruit forward, well structured, cassis and cedar wood, effortlessly drinkable – this is excellent value, quality claret at its best. It is from the outstanding 2016 vintage, described by top critic James Suckling for one as “exceptional”. But it also benefits from the talented craftsmanship of Cru Bourgeois château Ramage La Batisse. We’ve been buying from them for 15 years but never thought to ask for this special, earlier drinking cuvée. We thought it was set to stay in France. Made by the same cellar team, but from vats that won’t make the Grand Vin and are ready for enjoyment earlier, this is a classic Haut-Médoc, Cabernet dominated blend. Perfect for those who like a glass of claret, full of rich fruit and classic poise.
