If you’re after a dessert wine with total wow factor, you must try Klein Constantia’s Vin de Constance – the Cape’s most-revered sweetie. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the sweet wine of Constantia was all the rage in the Royal Courts of Europe, favoured above Sauternes, Tokay and Madeira. It even features in the works of Dickens, Jane Austen and Baudelaire. Sadly, production ended after phylloxera devastated the estate towards the end of the 19th century, but now Klein Constantia has recreated this glorious wine, introducing it in 1986. James Suckling raves about the 2018: "Extraordinary aromas of white peaches, apricots, vanilla and flowers. Full-bodied and very sweet. Always energetic"; a "world-class finish" (WA). Will age decades.
