Orange blossom, green apples and sweet lemon
This wine is crafted by Kilikanoon’s Kevin Mitchell, whose flagship Shiraz rates 98 points from Robert Parker and sells for around $250 a bottle. Kevin, from a long line of grape growers, finally got to indulge his creative side with his own brand in 1997, when he bought a block of vines in Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley. Kilikanoon was voted Winery of the Year by James Halliday’s Wine Companion in 2013 and by Germany’s Mundus Vini in 2010, 2017 and 2018. But it’s not all about Shiraz. Riesling is another speciality. The ‘Baudinet’, from grapes from nearby Trillion’s Hill Vineyard, is charged with fresh, intense citrus notes that evolve and develop on the palate in fabulous style. It’s perfect with grilled prawns or a Caesar salad.
