Decanter.com listed this fine red as one of their "must-try" Chianti Classicos in 2021. And for very good reason. This is one of the very finest Classicos from an outstanding estates and winemaker, Paolo de Marchi. Layers of nuanced elegant flavour.

There is enormous praise for this top performing Chianti estate. It was founded in the 1950s by the de Marchi family, when they joined two properties, Isola and Olena. Their 45 hectares of vines are situated on the western side of Chianti, at 350 to 450 metres – an area that benefits from coastal breezes, as well as the coolness of a higher altitude position. The result is a striking elegance, finesse and aromatic quality in their wines. Paolo de Marchi, known by his peers as ‘Mr Sangiovese’, is regarded today as one of the very best winemakers of the appellation. Since 1980, he has also made a Super Tuscan called Cepparello, which regularly gains over 95 points. To enjoy now, decant an hour beforehand. Enjoy with white meats or risotto.

"Beautiful core of ripe fruit, round, lightly chewy tannins. Dark cherries, walnuts and chocolate" Antonio Galloni
