Inland from Venice, the high altitude Adige Valley is home to some of the best quality Pinot Grigio in Italy – healthy, ripe grapes with light pink skins and terrific aromatic freshness make for elegant rosato. Il Pino is made by Giuseppe Secchi, senior winemaker at the 150 year old Concilio winery, and there’s nothing he doesn’t know about local speciality Pinot Grigio. His classic rosato is just the sort of wine chic Italians choose to drink in the lakeside bars and restaurants. 2017 has proved a small vintage due to spring frosts, but the intensity and crispness is all there, along with an appealing, ripe berry filled aroma and flavour. Elegant and refreshing on its own, this is an ideal match with seafood, a gentle risotto or salads.
