Henschke Henry’s Seven 2017

Barossa Valley

An outstanding red from an iconic Australian cellar, the same as behind Hill of Grace, top wine of Oz. Here they blend special parcels of the Barossa's classic grapes - Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Viognier – and age them in oak. A weighty, intense red.

In 1841 Johann Christian Henschke set sail for South Australia and by 1842, a few calamaties later, he'd settled in the Adelaide Hills. Since then, the family has slowly built up this superb estate, specialising in Riesling, great reds like this and their supreme, 100 point flagship Hill of Grace. Aussie critic James Halliday has named them 2021 Winery of the Year, adding to their already huge haul of awards. Today 5th generation Stephen and Prue Henschke run the estate, along with their children. This red is a tribute to Henry Evans, who planted the first 7 acres of vines in Barossa's Keyneton in 1853. At his death, his wife reverted to her temperance ways and the vineyard was lost. Aged 10 months in hogshead, this is a masterpiece red.

"Very spicy; also intense, deep, rich and complex. Delicious fruit-sweet core. Concentrated, lovely" Huon Hooke, 94 points
