Hacienda del Arte Reserva 2013

Ribera del Duero DO

Deep, rich, long-aged Tempranillo (aka Tinto Fino here), still with great potential. This magnificent red is from the Muriel family's new acquisition in Ribera del Duero. Very high vines give this 2013 precision freshness to balance rich, dark fruit.

Bodegas Valdecuriel lies in the Valle de Las Pinzas, flanked on both sides by dramatic, white limestone crags. These protect the vines from harsh winds, so that the grapes can ripen. They lie at an impressive 800 metres altitude and with pure sunshine days and cold nights, even in summer, ripening is slow and long. Hence the great ageing potential of this superb Ribera del Duero Reserva. The owner is Javier Murúa. Rioja fans will know the name – he's behind our bestselling Barón de Barbón range. The family recently bought Bodegas Valdecuriel and are really excited by the potential they are unlocking here. All Tinta Fino (the local name for Tempranillo), long aged, it has layers of fruit, dark spice and violets. Ideal with grilled meats.

"Nine years old, but still showing terrific fresh fruit. Full-bodied and intense. A great wine" Sarah Everden
