England's reputation for producing fine still wines is on a stellar rise. Even red wines, more difficult to ripen, have received high praise in the press (indeed this estate won Trophy twice with their Pinot Noir). This is a delightful, mineral fresh Chardonnay from the tiny Stocklands Greenhill estate in Somerset. The one hectare vineyard of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir was planted on limestone soils in 2008 and now owners Jenny and Mark Thorp are reaping the rewards. They send their grapes to the award winning winemaker Stephen Brooksbank. The result certainly impressed our Buyer Beth. Bright pear and apple with a hint of elderflower – all the aromas of an English summer. Chill and serve with noodles, panfried sea bass or creamy chicken.
