Groote Kaap Viognier 2017

Western Cape

Groote Kaap Viognier is an exotic delight from one of the most impressive wineries in premium Stellenbosch. Like the original Viogniers from the northern Rhône, it’s full of honeysuckle and apricot notes, with a lush, fresh, mouthfilling texture.

Viognier, the exotic tasting grape originally from the tiny Rhône enclave of Condrieu, is now very much at home in the Cape. With its lovely peach and apricot aromas and tropical fruit and spice flavours, the mouthfilling Groote Kaap goes beautifully with Cape Malay curries and barbecued seafood. It is made by the hugely impressive Spier winery (former IWSC ‘South African Wine Producer of the Year’ no less). Founded near Stellenbosch in 1692, this historic cellar predates most of the great châteaux of Bordeaux! Today Spier attracts thousands of tourists not only for its rich wine heritage but because within the property there is now a hotel, restaurants and even an eagle sanctuary. Serve this fine Viognier lightly chilled in large glasses.

"A lovely Viognier, dry and full of flavour. Great for the money too. 5-Stars" Online Review
