The Barossa is best known for Shiraz but its Cabernet from the Grant Burge stable is formidable. For 12 years this cellar has been awarded the top Halliday rating of 5 red stars. For good reason judging by the dark chocolate spiced fruit of this red.

This great cellar has reached legend status in just over 30 years and its wines are hugely sought-after worldwide. It was founded by the eponymous Grant Burge, the great great grandchild of John and Eliza Burge who arrived in the Barossa from Wiltshire in 1855. Their son, Meshach, was the first winemaker in the family. Grant founded his cellar in 1988 and since the start, the aim has been to make the wines of the finest quality. The great Corryton Cabernet comes from the higher Eden Valley, a subregion of the Barossa. This altitude makes the finest Cabernets, lending a crisp edge of tannin and bright minerality to the ripe fruit. Open early and decant or, ideally, cellar. A great red with steak to show off all its rich, velvety flavour.

"Blackberries, dark cherries, bay leaves, forest wood and sweet spices. Full body with creamy tannins" James Suckling
