Friuli Venezia Giulia IGT

All strawberries, red cherries and satisfying smooth plum fruit, Gallicus is a taste of authentic Italy. Crafted for us by one of Friuli’s greatest winemakers, Alessandro Gallici, it shows off the ravishing dark cherry fruit of native Refosco.

Refosco is one of Italy’s most deliciously appealing, little known red grapes. Decanter raves about its “brightness of fruit teamed with tangy acidity”. It almost all grows in the cool Alpine foothills of northern Friuli, where it makes bright, juicy reds that the locals keep for themselves. But here’s one we’ve prised away. And from one of the region’s greatest winemakers. Starting with just a few rows of vines in his family’s garden and a tiny garage, Alessandro Gallici has become one of our favourite Italian producers. His Gallicus is pure Italy in a glass, all red cherries and satisfying smooth plum fruit. This grape ages really well, adding richness to this wine’s red fruit. Perfect to sip on its own, but magnificent with food.

"A beautiful Refosco. Silky red fruits, heady plums and blackberry, and satin-smooth on the palate" Leonardo Bassano
