Gabel Riesling Gutswein 2017

Pfalz Qualitätswein

The Pfalz has a long tradition of making dry wine and Riesling Gutswein from Gabel is a classic. It’s from the Fork family’s small, 350 year old estate, wedded to brilliant, modern wines. From high vineyards, this is crisp, dry, lime zipped Riesling.

Ask a sommelier or a wine critic their favourite white grape and the chances are it’ll be Riesling. It’s renowned in Alsace, Austria and the New World, but many of its finest wines come from Germany, specifically the Pfalz, where it is famously richer and riper. Pfalz wines are truly regal, the 2017s proving the point with a small crop of wines with “fuller flavour profiles and more complexity” (Wine Spectator). Gabel estate has been making fine wines since 1655. Wolfgang and Rianne Gabel are the current owners, entrusting winemaking and running of the winery to their children Oliver and Lisa. Deep limestone soils impart a unique mineral character and delicacy to this zingy Riesling. A delight for drinking solo or with fish or white meats.

"Riesling – one of the world’s great vines, arguably that which produces the finest white wine of all" Jancis Robinson MW
