Chat with Vinny
This is a sumptuous, exotically perfumed and beautifully poised Condrieu from a small northern Rhône estate. Quality has always been high, but with Chapoutier influence since 1998, it has soared. Peach, blossom, apricot with fine linear minerality.
Tasting notes
Textured, with creamy stone fruit, brilliant mineral grip and blossom
Aroma
Wonderful lift of peach, blossom, spice and apricot
Domaine Ferraton was founded in 1946 and has for decades enjoyed a good reputation. In 1998 Michel Chapoutier became involved and lent his expertise, buying the property outright in 2004 but running it separately from the rest of the Chapoutier estates. Since his arrival and the building of a new winery, and with Damien Brisset in charge of winemaking, “quality has surged” (Suckling). Les Mandouls is a tiny, granite soil vineyard within the legendary Condrieu appellation. Only 350 cases are made each year (in a good vintage!). It’s a steep, beautifully positioned vineyard, facing south/southeast, with all work carried out by hand. Stainless steel vats for fermentation and no malolactic ensures superb purity of fruit. A symphony of Viognier.
