Fèlsina is a superb property just northeast of Siena, in the southern reaches of the Chianti zone. Domenico Poggiali bought the estate in 1966, and handed over the running to his son in law, Guiseppe Mazzocolin, in the 1970s. Giuseppe played a significant role in both the growth and the reputation of the estate, then handed over the running to his son. Consultant winemaker is the highly reputed Franco Bernabei. The extensive vineyards (470 hectares) are all tended biodynamically to best express the superb terroir of the region. Their superb Chianti Classico tends to be more powerful and Montalcino in style than many others. In 2018, the wine is slightly more restrained, but still rich, complex and layered. Open early and decant or cellar.
