When we first began working with the Farnese cellar in Abruzzo, we knew we’d struck gold, and today, more than 10 years later, we’re more like good friends than business associates. It’s always a pleasure to taste through the latest creations with winemaker Filippo Baccalaro in the ancient stone cellars of their historic seaside castle. Filippo made this wine purely from Sangiovese – the classic grape of Chianti – but it’s in a richer style than you might expect, as he sourced the fruit from Puglia in the sunny south of the country. It still has that lovely cherry freshness Chianti fans will know and love, but with deeper, plummy notes and a tickle of spice thanks to gentle oak ageing. A perfect match with lamb ragù or pizza.
