Beaujolais is on the comeback thanks to great family estates like this. Domaine Piron was founded in the 1600s and today has 95 hectares of vines throughout Beaujolais’ finest villages, a third of them in Morgon. Winemaker Dominique Piron has joined up with a friend from the appellation, Julien Revillon, and together they have a vision to produce Beaujolais as fine as any Burgundy. They go to great lengths to achieve this, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. This is their vibrant Nouveau – a similar cuvée as last year's under the Piron label, but named in 2019 after founder Etienne Bailly. It's fruit laden and made for joyful easy drinking. With lovely intensity of juicy red fruit and suppleness, it's perfect with pâtés and cold meats.
